KARACHI: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar claimed on Monday that Pakistan does not need support from International Monetary Fund (IMF) anymore.
He said, “Pakistan will soon stop looking towards IMF for assistance. It is the last session with the IMF underway right now.” He said that Pakistan would not go to IMF for assistance anymore.
He said that by 2050 Pakistan would become the 18th biggest economic nation across the world. Earlier this year, IMF Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusawa had also said that Pakistan’s economy was gradually gaining strength and its short-term vulnerabilities were also receding.
Dar said about the government’s plan regarding the new property tax laws, “we haven’t announced any amnesty scheme regarding the transferring of property.” He said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) would be responsible to determine the property prices and all the transactions would be conducted through a transparent process.
He had also recently announced that in future property valuation tables will be notified by the FBR. Talking further on the matter, he said that the FBR would also form capital gains tax collection tables which would also be shared with the provinces. “We will ask the provinces to implement our policies as they will benefit from them, the provinces will also be able to lower their tax percentage in this way.”
The rates of property in the official evaluation table are usually 40per cent to 60 per cent lower than the actual market price, and previously the capital gains tax was being charged as per the property evaluation table notified by the district collectors.
